This book is everything I had hoped it would be. I feel like Robyn’s book is the perfect follow-up to David Asher…kind of like, “If you like David Asher, you’ll love Robyn.” Robyn puts cheese firmly in the homestead kitchen, where so many of us are. I think so far one of my favorite things about this book is that she admits mozzarella isn’t for beginners! I’ve been making mozza for years, yet I feel it’s getting worse instead of better, and Cheese from Scratch is helping me dial in where I’m going wrong. The pictures are beautiful, Robyn’s personality shines through every page, and I love, love, love how she just trusts the milk! I LOVE the focus on clabber culture! Who needs to purchase cultures when you have milk?

I’ve just received Robyn Jackson’s new book, Cheese From Scratch, and I’m blown away by the overall quality and feel of the book, as well as the wealth of knowledge she has in ensuring that everything is easy to follow and broken down into manageable steps. I cannot wait to make my own cheese from scratch and am currently looking into local farms that can provide me with some raw milk. I highly recommend this book if you’re even remotely interested in making all sorts of cheese products.

Excellent Baseline – the author does a very good job of providing start up information then building that process seems straight forward. It is also filled with a lot of common sense approaches and problem solving information. The illustrations are also top-notch.

I’m new to cheese making but this book helped me to understand the process. I bought a course but it only included a handful of recipes to follow, this book teaches the art of making cheese.

I am new to cheesemaking and have never made anything more than yogurt. I bought a course from somewhere online and it turned out to include only a handful of recipes. This book taught me how the process works, helping me understand the different stages of the process and has been absolutely invaluable. I had a question and emailed Robyn and got a very prompt response too. Super pleased with this purchase!

I just finished Cheese From Scratch and am so excited to begin my cheese making journey. Robyn’s instructions are well written and and she gives plenty of ideas to make the process accessible to just about anyone, using both raw and pasteurized milk.
Being an overthinker, I appreciate the trouble shooting section.
My only suggestion for future endeavors would be to include pictures of the cheese making process instead of just the beautiful pictures of blocks of cheese. I would’ve benefited from seeing how she cuts the curds vertically using a skimmer but that’s covered on her YouTube channel I’m sure.
Overall, I am thrilled to have this book in my collection and would highly recommend it!

I was able to attend one of Robins speaking engagements and knew at that time she was the one I wanted to learn from. She had a knack for breaking things to a level that is understandable and therefore doable. It allows you to catch any errors you might make to prevent things from going bad. If you are serious about making cheese you will not be disappointed in the book. Think of how much you pay right now for a block of cheese and ask yourself, do I want to know who made it his and how when it costs this much? Once you break that down the knowledge gained from the book is worth it.

This book does not disappoint! It is absolutely beautiful while also being easy to read. It is filled with helpful information and easy approachable recipes. This book is perfect for a beginner cheese maker, but it would also be a lovely book for someone with more experience. I have made cheese for a few years now from my backyard milk cow, but I am far from an expert when it comes to making cheese. This book has definitely helped me better understand the art of cheese making and I’m excited to try out some new recipes in this book. Thank you Robyn for all the hard work you put into this book, it is a treasure. ❤️

Just received my book in the mail. It is wonderful. It is a good entry level book but also an excellent resource for experienced cheesemakers. It’s not just about how to make cheese. It’s about the components of making cheese and why and how they work. I really appreciate the troubleshooting guides. This is a helpful resource to have in my library. Excellent book can’t recommend it enough if you are interested in cheese making.

What a beautiful book! What an incredible resource. There is no doubt that the author knows what she’s writing about – if I can become half as knowledgeable as she is about cheese making… I am excited to start on my cheese making journey.
By the way, I had a minor issue with my order, contacted customer service, and everything was handled in a timely fashion. Keep these books coming – help us all to be more self-sufficient!
