The Perfect Homemade Granola Recipe with Oats, Nuts, and Dried Fruit

Packaged cereal is another expensive grocery store item that has become commonplace on the breakfast table. Our solution? Homemade granola. This recipe features whole grains, nuts, and dried fruit with a lot less sugar that you’d get in a box of cereal. It’s a family favorite around here, working double duty as a breakfast cereal and on-the-go snack.

Servings: 8 cups

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup coconut oil melted
  • 1/4 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 4 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 4 cups old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 1 1/4 cups walnuts chopped coarsely
  • 1 cup unsweetened flaked coconut
  • 3/4 cup unsalted sunflower seeds
  • 1 cup raisins

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 325°F (163ºC). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
  • Measure coconut oil, brown sugar, maple syrup, vanilla extract, and salt into a large mixing bowl. Whisk until well combined.
  • Add oats, walnuts, flaked coconut, and sunflower seeds to the bowl. Use a heavy wooden spoon or clean hands to mix the ingredients until thoroughly combined.
  • Transfer mixture to the lined baking sheet and spread evenly. Use a metal spatula to firmly press oat mixture into a thin, even layer.
  • Bake for 40 to 45 minutes or until golden brown all across the top (not just the edges). Remove from the oven and allow to cool on the baking sheet.
  • Once cool, use your hands to break granola into pieces. Gently mix in the raisins.
  • Store in an airtight container in the pantry for up to 2 months.
